Tintagel

Tintagel is situated on the North coast of Cornwall and is renowned for its association with the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. The magic of the this is captured particularly by the castle, King Arthur's Castle, which is reached by steps leading from the main land. Originally the Castle was attached to the main land but by erosion over the years a bridge had to be built. It is a difficult climb to the top (and not for those who don't like heights) but well worth it. The Castle is maintained by English Heritage.

There are many beaches in the area, for surfers Trebarwith and Bossiney are the main attractions, but the Castle Beach is renowned as a very safe bathing beach. For the visitor to Tintagel there are many attractions to see in the village apart from the cliffs area . Nearby is the lovely village of Boscastle,  Delabole,  Camelford and the pretty fishing village, Port Isaac.

Due to the fact this area has such a huge variety of ferns, flowers, and grasses, the bird life here is quite diverse. Several species of seabirds frequent the coast. Farther inland, there are falcons, crows, and ravens. If your lucky you can also spot the black Cornish Chough, it is the emblem of Cornwall and is said to be the embodiment of King Arthur's spirit. They are plentiful around the famed fortress. The coastline and scenery of the area are extensive and also interesting. Trebarwith Strand is close to the citadel and boasts clear waters and golden sand. In a beautiful wooded valley there is a beautiful waterfall known as St. Nectan's Kieve.

The shops of Tintagel can cope with all the needs of the holidaymaker. There is a wide variety of accommodation, restaurants, character pubs and quality retail outlets.
